The practice has recently had a CQC visit and I am pleased to inform you that the rating has gone from requires improvement to Good over the last year. The team have worked very hard and been fully supported by our interim practice manager to achieve this rating. Thank you to all the patients that completed questionnaires and spoke to the CQC team on the day of the visit. The report will be displayed on the website soon.
St Albans Medical Group has now received permission from NHS England to close The Bede Centre therefore will be making arrangements over the next month to empty the building ..............
Currently recruiting representatives for the patient participation group ..................
If you are interested in being involved we will meet four times a year to discuss the practice and its services. We need good representation from all age groups therefore I am currently looking for patients in the following age categories; 16 - 25, 26-35, 36 - 49, 50-64, 65 - 74, 75 - 100. Ideally the group will be no more than 12 members. The members should be willing to vote in a fellow member as a chairperson for the group.

Doctors at St Albans will no longer be signing passports ..........
Please note the doctors have made a decision to no longer particpate in the signing of passports and are unable to act as a countersignatory.
Information from the passport website advises as follows -
Your countersignatory must:
- have known the person applying (or the adult who signed the form if the passport is for a child under 16) for at least 2 years
- be able to identify the person applying, eg they’re a friend, neighbour or colleague (not just someone who knows them professionally)
- be ‘a person of good standing in their community’ or work in (or be retired from) a recognised profession
They can’t be closely-related to or involved with the person applying, eg:
- related by birth or marriage
- be in a relationship with or live at the same address as the person applying
Change to Repeat Prescription Practice Policy........
We experience a large volume of requests for prescriptions everyday. In order to safely and efficiently issue the prescriptions we refer to our policy of issuing acute prescriptions.
Medications other than the ones on this list will not routinely be issued as an urgent/same day basis. Requests for routine prescription will require two working days for the prescriptions to be processed for collection and a further 24 hours if collecting from the chemist in order for them to prepare the medication for dispensing.
List of Medications that would be issued the same day (before 5.30pm)
Inhalers (reliever type): Salbutamol/Ventolin/Ipratropium/Atrovent/Terbutaline/Bricanyl
We ask that requests for routine prescriptions should be made well in advance to avoid running out.
